A higher wattage allows the iron to heat up quicker and maintain that heat during your ironing session
Continuous steam output in grams per minute. Higher output = quicker ironing
A short, powerful burst of steam to penetrate deep into creased or thick fabric
Weight of the hand iron without water. Heavier irons can be more stressful on your wrist over long ironing sessions
A ceramic soleplate will give the smoothest gliding and best scratch resistance. More expensive models might also have a special coating for even better performance
Higher water capacities will mean faster ironing with less time to stop and fill up, but can also increase the weight of hand irons
A longer cord gives greater flexibility, particularly when ironing large items. (For steam generators this figure is the cord length from the hand iron to base unit)
A safety feature that turns the iron off after a period of inactivity
Reduces limescale build-up in your iron to help prevent spitting and clogging of the steam holes
Standard manufacturers warranty period from time of purchase
The Series 6 continues Bosch's step away from the dowdy black machines of the past, although we're not sure the garish pink, purple and white of this unit is that much better. Luckily, it's just superficial and the iron performs better than it looks.
Although not top of the range, steam pressure is delivered at a respectable 5.7 bar pressure and can output constant steam at 120g per minute with a shot of 370g to shift stubborn creases. iTemp technology lets the iron set just the right amount of steam and heat for various fabrics so burnt silk blouses are a thing of the past!
Lighting Up Time
What else have we got? There's a handy calc-clean system to collect all the nasty limescale in one place and make boiler rinsing out merely mildly annoying. The hand iron can be securely locked to the base unit making it easier to carry around. If that doesn't sway you, the purple section on the iron's handle lights up when in use!
Other features include all the usual refinements you'd expect: vertical steam, auto-off, a 1.5 litre water tank you can refill while in use and a hand iron weight of 1.2 kilos.
Although EasyComfort sounds a bit like a brand of nappy, we'd describe this as a middle of the range iron in capability and it's ideal for a family sized ironing load. It is pricier than rivals though. The only downside is the rather dubious colour scheme of white, pink and purple copied off a cheap ladies trainer.
Garish colour scheme hides a hugely powerful steam generator with all the trimmings”
