A higher wattage allows the iron to heat up quicker and maintain that heat during your ironing session
Continuous steam output in grams per minute. Higher output = quicker ironing
A short, powerful burst of steam to penetrate deep into creased or thick fabric
Weight of the hand iron without water. Heavier irons can be more stressful on your wrist over long ironing sessions
A ceramic soleplate will give the smoothest gliding and best scratch resistance. More expensive models might also have a special coating for even better performance
Higher water capacities will mean faster ironing with less time to stop and fill up, but can also increase the weight of hand irons
A longer cord gives greater flexibility, particularly when ironing large items. (For steam generators this figure is the cord length from the hand iron to base unit)
A safety feature that turns the iron off after a period of inactivity
Reduces limescale build-up in your iron to help prevent spitting and clogging of the steam holes
Standard manufacturers warranty period from time of purchase
Powerful 6.5 bar steam output means ironing is just quick and effortless”
Halve your time spent ironing
It is widely known that a steam generator can halve time spent ironing compared to a traditional hand iron. This value for money steam generator has two BIG things going for it and both will save you a LOT of time:
- A huge 2.2 litre water tank means less time wasted filling up
- Steam pressure is delivered at a powerful 6.5 bar pressure so it gets pushed really deep into the fabric meaning easier and quicker ironing.
With some thinner garments you may only need to iron one side due to the powerful steam output, and you can also iron multiple layers.
Plenty of features
This iron has a really high specification for the price and this sort of power can easily cost you another £50 or so with a different manufacturer. With steam output rated at 170g per minute, creases are crushed quickly and effortlessly.
There's even a 300g steam burst available at the push of a button for more stubborn creases or thicker fabrics.
There is also a safety auto-off system that cuts heat if the iron is left too long in once place to prevent burning.
Big and bulky
Do watch out for your ironing board though - unless it's specifically made for a large steam generator (not all ironing boards are), it won't appreciate a 5kg hulk being plonked down onto it.
Alternatively use a nearby table, though as with most generator irons bear in mind the power cord is only 2 metres long.
Push button controls
Helpfully, the iron locks to the base which makes it easy to carry, while clear icons and simple push button controls make it easy to use.
As it is very powerful, you will probably notice it is louder than a traditional iron. The steam output is emitted via a trigger control on the iron handle - keep it pressed for steam.
Users who purchased this iron like the speed at which they can get through their ironing especially with thicker fabrics, and the large water tank found favour too. The hand iron is lightweight and there are no cartridges to replace.
