A higher wattage allows the iron to heat up quicker and maintain that heat during your ironing session
Continuous steam output in grams per minute. Higher output = quicker ironing
A short, powerful burst of steam to penetrate deep into creased or thick fabric
Weight of the hand iron without water. Heavier irons can be more stressful on your wrist over long ironing sessions
A ceramic soleplate will give the smoothest gliding and best scratch resistance. More expensive models might also have a special coating for even better performance
Higher water capacities will mean faster ironing with less time to stop and fill up, but can also increase the weight of hand irons
A longer cord gives greater flexibility, particularly when ironing large items. (For steam generators this figure is the cord length from the hand iron to base unit)
A safety feature that turns the iron off after a period of inactivity
Reduces limescale build-up in your iron to help prevent spitting and clogging of the steam holes
Standard manufacturers warranty period from time of purchase
The rather odd shape of this iron is a bit of a Morphy Richards trademark and lends itself to their ergonomic Comfigrip handle design. Except this particular iron doesn't have the Comfigrip but it's still lumbered with the looks. That's life eh?
The rather ungainly look does mean a larger than average water tank so that's something and another saving grace is that it has an auto-off safety feature which will switch the iron off if it's left face down or unattended for a period of time. It will also beep at you. The wattage rating of 2400 is about average and so is the continuous steam of 45g. A steam shot of 120g is not so exceptional these days but remember this iron costs under £30 so I think we can let it off.
We're Gonna Need a Bigger Cable
Morphy have been a bit stingy with the power cord in that it's only 2 metres long with most other brands offering 2.5 or a full 3 metre cable even at this price level. Come on Morphy, find a couple of pence for a bit of extra cable!
Like all of Morphy's irons, it comes with a 1year standard warranty, but you can extend this to three years by registering with Morphy. We've got to the end of this write-up without the obvious pun, but here it comes ... this cheap and cheerful chap makes ironing a real breeze!
A low priced ceramic steam iron with average steam output. One of the cheapest with auto-off”
