A higher wattage allows the iron to heat up quicker and maintain that heat during your ironing session
Continuous steam output in grams per minute. Higher output = quicker ironing
A short, powerful burst of steam to penetrate deep into creased or thick fabric
Weight of the hand iron without water. Heavier irons can be more stressful on your wrist over long ironing sessions
A ceramic soleplate will give the smoothest gliding and best scratch resistance. More expensive models might also have a special coating for even better performance
Higher water capacities will mean faster ironing with less time to stop and fill up, but can also increase the weight of hand irons
A longer cord gives greater flexibility, particularly when ironing large items. (For steam generators this figure is the cord length from the hand iron to base unit)
A safety feature that turns the iron off after a period of inactivity
Reduces limescale build-up in your iron to help prevent spitting and clogging of the steam holes
Standard manufacturers warranty period from time of purchase
Morphy Richards are known for their jumbo-sized steam generators with huge water tanks so it is interesting to see this 333006 which is the new 'baby' of the family and replaces the original 333000 model.
With a smaller footprint and half the weight of it's outsized brethren, something had to go and the main casualty is a 1 litre water tank instead of the 2 litre reservoir you normally get with a Morphy. While not exactly half the size of a normal generator, it's a useful few centimetres smaller in each direction which makes it easier to carry and store, and won't give your poor ironing board a heart attack when you plonk it down.
Doors to Manual
Despite its lower status in the family it does come with IntelliTemp which is Morphy's version of the whizzy techno stuff that sets the right heat and steam for the fabric type being ironed. You can also go into 'manual mode' and select one of the three traditional iron settings, you know with the dots, depending on the fabric type.
There's a colourful little control panel in the handle of the iron, and a steam trigger under the handle for a bit of extra oomph when required. Steam is output at up to 150g/minute which is a good deal higher than the original model which could only muster a measly 100g. Auto-off is included too which is great at this low price. You can also lock the iron to the base which is handy when moving the unit - aren't Morphy thoughtful?
Just one word of warning, this unit uses anti-scale cartridges which are supposed to help with limescale build-up which can eventually ruin your iron. I don't doubt their usefulness, but they do need replacing every so often (depending on usage) at £6 + postage direct from Morphy. The iron doesn't work when a cartridge needs replacing . This is either a Mafia-type protection racket or (more likely) a good way to prolong the life of your iron if you're plagued with hard water (most of the country actually).
A good introduction to a steam generator or for those on a budget/short of space, this little unit packs a lot in to it's compact dimensions. There's a one year standard warranty, extended to two years if you register your iron with Morphy.
One of the cheapest steam generators with automatic controls for hassle-free ironing”
