A higher wattage allows the iron to heat up quicker and maintain that heat during your ironing session
Continuous steam output in grams per minute. Higher output = quicker ironing
A short, powerful burst of steam to penetrate deep into creased or thick fabric
Weight of the hand iron without water. Heavier irons can be more stressful on your wrist over long ironing sessions
A ceramic soleplate will give the smoothest gliding and best scratch resistance. More expensive models might also have a special coating for even better performance
Higher water capacities will mean faster ironing with less time to stop and fill up, but can also increase the weight of hand irons
A longer cord gives greater flexibility, particularly when ironing large items. (For steam generators this figure is the cord length from the hand iron to base unit)
A safety feature that turns the iron off after a period of inactivity
Reduces limescale build-up in your iron to help prevent spitting and clogging of the steam holes
Standard manufacturers warranty period from time of purchase
This sleek black iron from Tefal is loaded with good features to make ironing easier including Tefal's renowned Ultraglide ceramic soleplate.
The water tank capacity is slightly below average at 270ml so you might be popping out to fill it up a bit more than normal, while the steam output overall is good given the price. A long 3 metre cord is a welcome feature that many irons (even more expensive one) can't match - even in Tefals's own range!
There are a couple of interesting features that you wouldn't expect at this price, namely automatic controls and a removeable calc collector system. The ability to let the iron set the steam and heat is usually only found on top end steam irons and generators so it's nice to see it here. Same too with the calc collector which gathers all the nasty limescale bits together. Just pull out the collector from the back of the iron, rinse out and you're done!
The wattage and steam output aren't the highest but neither is the price and the addition of auto controls, auto-off and the calc collector make this a very interesting model, and one for the shortlist!
With the popular Ultraglide soleplate, auto-off, auto controls and reasonable steam output”
