A higher wattage allows the iron to heat up quicker and maintain that heat during your ironing session
Continuous steam output in grams per minute. Higher output = quicker ironing
A short, powerful burst of steam to penetrate deep into creased or thick fabric
Weight of the hand iron without water. Heavier irons can be more stressful on your wrist over long ironing sessions
A ceramic soleplate will give the smoothest gliding and best scratch resistance. More expensive models might also have a special coating for even better performance
Higher water capacities will mean faster ironing with less time to stop and fill up, but can also increase the weight of hand irons
A longer cord gives greater flexibility, particularly when ironing large items. (For steam generators this figure is the cord length from the hand iron to base unit)
A safety feature that turns the iron off after a period of inactivity
Reduces limescale build-up in your iron to help prevent spitting and clogging of the steam holes
Standard manufacturers warranty period from time of purchase
A powerful steam generator from a premium brand with excellent steam and features”
The Series 6 continues Bosch's step away from the dowdy black machines of the past, although we're not sure that the garish pink, purple and white of this unit is much better! Luckily, it's just superficial and the iron performs better than it looks.
A Powerful Steam Generator
Although not quite top of the Bosch range, this iron does deliver steam pressure at a respectable 5.7 bar pressure which helps push the steam deeper into the fabric and therefore makes crease removal quicker and easier.
Constant steam is output at 120g per minute and there is a burst shot of 370g to shift stubborn creases.
For thinner fabrics you may only need to iron on one side or iron multiple layers together saving you valuable time.
There are fully automatic controls and the iTemp technology lets the iron set just the right amount of steam and heat for various fabric types.
Many Useful Features
There's a handy calc-clean system to collect all the nasty limescale in one place and make boiler rinsing out merely mildly annoying.
Other features include all the usual refinements you'd expect: vertical steam, auto-off, a 1.5 litre water tank that you can refill while in use and a hand iron weight of 1.2 kilos. Oh yes, and the purple section on the iron's handle lights up when in use!
Bulky and cumbersome as steam generators are, this iron is designed to make it easier to carry around. Place the iron on the generator and simply push the lock to securely mount it - it ain't going anywhere and makes the whole unit easier to move.
Our Verdict on the Bosch Easycomfort Steam Generator
Although EasyComfort sounds a bit like a brand of nappy, there's no doubt that the simple push button controls and good design means that's just what this iron is. We'd describe this as a middle of the range iron in capability and it's ideal for a family sized ironing load. It is pricier than some rival brands like Tefal and Philips though.
