ABOUT THIS IRON
With a very high wattage to keep heat-up times to a minimum, a large steam shot and a larger than average water tank, this sleek steamer from Russell Hobbs will make light working of any ironing pile.
This is their most powerful model yet with 3100 watts on tap which is just about the maximum possible. This really reduces the wait time for the soleplate to get to your desired temperature.
The power doesn't end there - up to 45g/min continuous steam and a 210g/min burst shot can tackle even the toughest creases and thickest of fabrics. Luckily there's an above average sized water tank and a larger than average fill hole. Russell Hobbs have even included a water beaker to help with filling up - a nice touch!
Of course, there is an auto-off safety system, and anti-calc technology keeps limescale build-up to a minimum which is really useful in hard water areas. Naturally, there is a handy vertical steam function to freshen hanging garments and curtains.
This is a very powerful iron but you pay the price in weight - at over 1.5 kilos without water you will need strong wrists if you have a lot of ironing to do. The weight does help crease crushing performance though.
The temperature control dial is quite big and a little easy to knock accidentally with your knuckles as there isn't much space between it the handle just above.

Power3100 watts
A higher wattage allows the iron to heat up quicker and maintain that heat during your ironing session
Steam45 g/min
Continuous steam output in grams per minute. Higher output = quicker ironing
Shot210g/min
A short, powerful burst of steam to penetrate deep into creased or thick fabric
Weight1.59 kg
Weight of the hand iron without water. Heavier irons can be more stressful on your wrist over long ironing sessions, but generally have better crease-crushing performance
SoleplateCeramic
A ceramic soleplate will give the smoothest gliding and best scratch resistance. More expensive models might also have a special coating for even better performance
Water Tank350 ml
Higher water capacities will mean faster ironing with less time to stop and fill up, but can also increase the weight of hand irons
Cord Length3 metres
A longer power cord gives greater flexibility, particularly when ironing large items. (For steam generators this figure is the steam cord length from the hand iron to base unit)
Auto-OffYES
A safety feature that turns the iron off after a period of inactivity
Auto ControlsNO
Instead of the usual heat and steam selector dials, the iron will control steam and heat automatically based on fabric type. Some irons even have both traditional manual controls and an automatic mode so you get the best of both worlds

Standard warranty period from time of purchase (includes any extension manufacturers may give for registering with them)
